We are West Malling Community Choir, an inclusive and friendly musical group, formed to bring local people together to enjoy singing and making music.
We have been making music together since February 2012 after an appeal to see if a choir would be popular with people from the local community. The response was amazing with a massive turn-out for the first session and after a short trial the members voted to carry on and West Malling Community choir become a permanent fixture. We now have around 120 people on our books and 60-100 people come along on a weekly basis to sing together.
With the advent of the Coronavirus, we’ve been unable to meet together for our normal rehearsals but have been meeting as usual on a Tuesday evening via a Zoom link where we’ve been trying to carry on in a semi-normal way. We really hope that things will be safe soon to meet up in person and be allowed to sing.
We’ve been busy raising money for charity this year, firstly in the #2.6 Challenge where we held a Singathon to support local charity Spadework in raising £2,620! (WMCC 2.6 Challenge)We also held some online quiz nights – raising £1,180 for the Heart of Kent Hospice (Quiz 1) and £615.24 for the Kent Association for the Blind (Quiz 2).
All our planned concerts for 2020 have been sadly postponed due to Covid-19 but we hope to be able to put them on at some point in the future – watch this space!
